Bristol Harbour Railway Community Centre
February - May 2019
Bristol
The task for the year was to design a community centre in Bristol, at a currently derelict and underused site, without much presence of a typical ‘community’. It was open for interpretation in terms of what this ‘community centre’ entails,
and how it responds to the site.
Exercises throughout the year include explorations on landscape, building and tectonic, each via different means of investigation. The journey of this year, then, is to discover the site and community through alternative means and then to respond through an architectural intervention. The scheme aims to provide a response to the site’s history, found condition and heritage, with the hope of fostering a new community that is able to acknowledge the roots of the city while pushing an agenda for a
forward-looking and sustainable future.
