Chaise Longing

October - November 2014

“A chair is a very difficult object.

A skyscraper is almost easier. That is why Chippendale is famous.”

- Ludwig Mies van der Rohe

In this project, opportunities allowed understanding and appreciation the process of manufacturing a chair, which, on its surface, appears to be a very simple task, but can in fact be very complex. After examining the assigned chair, Transat Chair by Eileen Gray, an exhibition stall to sell the chair was designed.

The design aims to create a simple but functional and aesthetic stand that highlights the chair without taking the focus away from the chair. That being said, the booth takes inspiration from the chair itself and celebrates certain important elements of it, while leaving the chair as the focal point of the whole booth.
