Open/Close

January - March 2015

In this project a kiosk had to be designed such that it could be used for catering purposes as well as other sales purposes on specific occasions. This kiosk had to be observed as ‘open’ or ‘closed’ from afar and had to be transportable and adaptable.

Copper and universal beam were assigned as the compulsory materials to use. The design of the kiosk is greatly based on the properties of these elements: intensive research was carried out to identify the optimal ways of using these materials.

While the kiosk had a trial site, the brief suggested that this kiosk could be used any where within the University of Bath, thus attention to context involved considering the University’s architecture as a whole, as opposed to limiting it to the trial site. The kiosk was designed to be attractive to visitors from a distance without distracting them from the main University facilities.
